Pascal Doquet Blanc de Blanc NV £20.95
For those of you who like a bit of flowery prose with your technical description of a wine, here's what Peter Liem has to say about it:
' This comes from the communes of Bassuet and Bassu, near Vitry-le-François, and it was vinified entirely in tank. It contains an unusually high percentage of reserve wines: only 40 percent of it comes from the base year of 2006, while a third of it is from 2005, and the rest from 2004 and 2002. It’s rich and forward in aroma, showing the ripeness of both the 2006 and 2005 vintages, and it feels generous and accessible on the palate, with a densely packed array of apple, citrus pith and red berry flavors. At the same time, it’s tightly controlled by its minerality, an earthy stoniness that turns even more prominent than the fruit flavors on the finish. While its terroir signature makes it feel slightly rustic in comparison to the wines from the Côte des Blancs, it’s delicious to drink, with a satisfyingly bold, fruity appeal. Last tasted: 3/11'
